Since COVID-19 hit the UK at the end of February 2020, the Events & Hospitality markets have been practically unable to operate in their usual capacity due to the Governments restrictions and guidelines.
Weddings of up to 15 people are currently allowed to resume and meetings & events in general function spaces can also proceed, but at a maximum capacity of 6 people.
With the main 2 markets that PFM serve being Events & Hospitality, we knew this wasn’t going to be an easy year; but we’ve managed and are continuing to manage throughout these trying times.
What some people might not know about Portable Floormaker is that we are a trading arm of Knoxford Ltd, which also have 2 other companies which run under the same umbrella. The 3 companies operate under the same roof at our 23,000 sq.ft. production facility in Castle Donington, Derby and supply their services and products into different industry sectors. We thought it was about time you learnt more about Knoxford Ltd as a company and what the different businesses within our group have to offer:

PFM have been manufacturing a range of luxury Portable Dance Floors, Mobile Bars & Staging Systems for the Hospitality and Event Markets now for over 20 years. Our success is built upon quality British craftsmanship which couples great design with reliability. Our wide range of products and colour choices are designed to make event spaces on-trend and functional.
Knoxford Fabrications
Knoxford originally started out manufacturing just the storage trolleys for the PFM range of Portable Dance Floors, as we wanted to keep the entire production process all under one roof. Since 2009, the fabrication side of the business has grown substantially with the investment in state-of-the-art machinery assets and the quality of the staff the company employs improving immensely. We can now proudly boast to have achieved ISO 9001 – 2015 accreditation in 2019, used to demonstrate the ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer and regulatory requirements. The company employs designers, engineers, welders and machine operators, between them combing a diverse and flexible range of skills.

ARX Security
With a fully fledged fabrication department and having gained ISO-9001 2015, in 2019, our owner decided it was time to add another trading arm to Knoxford Ltd. ARX Security specialise in the design and manufacture of temporary high security perimeter solutions for demarcation purposes. We have a diverse variety of options available, providing our customers with fully integrated perimeter solutions which are designed to be highly secure as well as aesthetically pleasing.
So now you know what we do, why don’t we show you some of the jobs that the company has carried out over the past 6 months.
At the start of lockdown, Knoxford Fabrications secured a large job to fabricate stanchions for parcel delivery chutes for a world-renowned logistics company. The job included designing, fabricating, welding and finally powder coating the product to the client’s exact requirements. 8 of the below truck loads were then shipped direct to London.
On top of this, Knoxford Fabrications have also been working alongside a healthcare company who supply hospital beds to the NHS as well as specialist products and services to over 150 hospitals in the UK and Ireland. Our products have streamlined their processes, allowing them to manoeuvre their products more efficiently.
Portable Floormaker saw a slight downturn in business throughout March and April.
But things soon got back to normal throughout the Months of May, June and July, with a large turnover in orders ranging from Marquee Hire Companies, RAF Bases, Hotels and Golf Clubs, with more business secured for upcoming months. Here’s a few shots from our Instagram stories over last last 6 months, showing some of the orders that have left our factory.
In July, Portable Floormaker also sent a 40ft Container full of Portable Dance Floors and Staging to the USA. Another Container bound for the USA is due to leave our factory at the end of September.
And that brings us to this week.
ARX Security are currently loading a large shipment of Security Fencing off to Germany.
So, with things not looking to get back on full track until at least March 2021, we continue our fight against COVID-19. Portable Floormaker are having a large number of enquiries for the Ikadan Modular Sub-Flooring system; which is an ideal solution for Marquees, Catering Tents and a whole range of other applications.
